Summary of Concentration Areas
There are courses that I
took within the public programs college that have prepared me for my career as a photographer.
The knowledge that was accrued from these courses is some of the fundamental building blocks of my Inderdiscliplinary
degree. The first course that will be relevant to guiding me to becoming a photographer
is Communication in Popular Culture. I learned the importance of keeping up with
popular culture and the products that grow from this industry in order to make myself marketable. This is all self education. Keeping up with all facets of
the popular culture industry enables you to paint a picture for clients and employers through the use of my camera.
Intercultural communication is also a very important skill set to have
because in places like New
York, Los Angeles, London and Paris you will find that there are many diverse cultures working together to build this global
community. As a photographer I’ll need to be knowledgeable on different
cultures and subcultures in order to build photo campaign. Cultural differences
are all contributing to one trend pattern whether it’s music, fashion, film or technology. Finding a way to for inclusion of different cultures into mainstream culture is one of the tricks to being
a successful photographer.
Just as
having a magnificent idea is important, it is equally important to have organizational skills.
It has been said that many artists are able to create but it’s challenging for them to bring organization to
their art. I’m confidant that I’ll have the ability to bring both
creativity and organization to the table. Through my Interdiscliplinary studies
I learned the importance of organizational thinking. Organizational thinking
means that I must be able to organize my thoughts through my writing. It is possible
to lose a message through translation. I must also be able to generate the appropriate
emails, press releases, biographies and proposals when it comes to dealing with potential investors and studios. I’ll need to do research on how this industry operates. Understanding
how the magazine, film and television mediums function will be a key piece of knowledge when working on photo campaigns.
